The purpose of the post-Summit activity is to reconvene leaders after the Meta-Leadership Summit to continue building cross-sector connectivity and applying meta-leadership concepts to preparedness planning. The post-Summit activity is unique to each community. Activities are typically based on preparedness gaps identified at the Summit and through evaluation results. For example, past post-Summit activities have included:
- Presentations and discussions on topics related to cross-sector preparedness such as addressing the needs of vulnerable populations; engaging faith-based organizations; enhancing corporate security; and leveraging virtual communities.
- A pandemic flu tabletop exercise focused on communication, training and infrastructure.
- Risk communication training on best approaches and tools for quality communication before, during and after an emergency.
Host Committee members work closely with a dedicated post-Summit activity coordinator from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Learning Office for Preparedness Response to collaboratively develop a post-Summit activity that meets community leaders’ needs.
The Host Committee leads efforts to identify the activity, invite appropriate community leaders and secure local sponsorship to cover expenses such as meeting space rental and meals. Host Committee members also participate in and/or facilitate the activity. In collaboration with the Host Committee, CDC leads the post-Summit planning process, including providing Summit evaluation results to help shape the event, managing event logistics and registration, and participating in and facilitating the activity.
The CDC team supports one post-Summit activity after each Summit. Following the activity, community leaders are encouraged to continue advancing meta-leadership and supporting actions that create a better prepared and more resilient community.
